Maybe you’ve been coming to VBF for two weeks. Maybe ten years. Maybe you've already tested the waters and you're ready to take the next step in getting more involved with VBF Vegas. How do people get connected and develop friendships in a church this big?
Jesus said that people would know we are His disciples by how we love one another (John 13:35). At VBF, we believe that it is impossible to fully become who God desires us to be without other believers coming alongside of us to encourage us, inspire us, and even correct us. However, in our complex world, it can be awkward to meet new people and develop meaningful relationships with them. To help make it easier for people in our church to connect and build meaningful friendships with each other, VBF created the #LiveThe Love campaign. In this campaign, every attender of VBF is encouraged to participate in four ways at the church. We use the word L.O.V..E. to describe these four ways.
1) Life Groups
- We believe life change happens in circles more than it does in rows. This is why we encourage everyone who is a part of VBF Vegas to get involved in a life group. These are smaller sub groups that meet throughout the week and are life stage based, gender based, or special interest based. For more information on joining a life group, visit our life group page, or contact our Campus Director Jerry Johnson firstname.lastname@example.org
VBF is a very outreach-driven church, meaning that we do well at getting outside the walls of the church building, rolling up our sleeves, and bringing Jesus to people outside the church in practical, loving ways. Whether it is walking the strip and praying for prostitutes, feeding the homeless, throwing block parties for the surrounding apartment complexes, or taking care of seniors at the Heritage Springs Assisted Living Center, VBF is on the move, actively loving our city. The outreach we do even extends beyond the borders of our city. In 2008, we partnered with a school in Zambia, Africa, to see children in extreme poverty be given an opportunity to be educated, fed, and discipled. Each year, VBF sends a team to help bring hope to over 400 children, most of whom have been orphaned. Each year in Africa, we also build a well for surrounding villages to receive clean water. When you are involved with helping in one of our Outreaches, it makes it so easy to get to know others that are serving alongside of you. Shared experience is the best and most effective way to form meaningful friendships within the church. There are Outreach activities and events happening throughout the year. Check our website or the VBF Weekly for the next planned VBF Outreach, and help us love our city and our world for Jesus.
There are many opportunities for you to actively participate within the church as a volunteer. At VBF, we believe that God has given special gifts to all to be used in service for others, as outlined in 1 Peter 4:10 - "Each of you as a good manager must use the gift that God has given you to serve others." God has equipped each of us in a unique way so that there is a place for each of us to contribute something to help make the church great. We desire every VBF attender to find a place within the church to volunteer. It takes hundreds of people each week to put together the awesome services we do here at VBF. From teaching the kids to handing out The VBF Weeklys at the front door, there are plenty of opportunities to jump right in and start contributing. In the history of VBF, most of the deep friendships formed within the church happened as people served together as volunteers. Check out our website for a complete list of how you can start volunteering at VBF, or stop by the Information desk next time you are at one of our services.
Our calendar is jam packed with events such as bowling, softball games, hiking, retreats, concerts, picnics, camps, etc. There are even events for specific groups within the church. There are events for the kids, the youth, the single adults, the men, the women, and also for the married couples. Why do we do all of these events at VBF? One simple reason … so it will make it easier for people to step out of their comfort zones and build meaningful friendships with other church attenders. The more events you participate in, the more people you will get to know.
We are confident that if you commit to participating in each of these four ways at VBF, you will not only meet some incredible new people for your life, but you will also build meaningful friendships with them that will help propel you forward to your God-given destiny and purpose. Take the next step and be a part of the L.O.V.E. at VBF Vegas!
